Fair Awards?

February 21st, 2011

Miley Cyrus won the Global Action Youth Leadership Award, this is a new thing so she was the first to win it. It’s basically an award for a young person who inspires other young people to do good in the world. That’s how I interpret it anyway. Miley won it for her charity involvement with the Youth Service America program Get Ur Good On which was created to inspire young people to do good in their own neighborhoods.

Sounds like that makes sense when you get down to it, besides it’s not even the only charity that Miley supports. She’s worked with Youth Service America before, like that whole 16th birthday thing at Disneyland which was to their benefit. Then there’s her involvement in Blessings in a Backpack in Kentucky and of course we shouldn’t forget her foundation together with her dad named after her grandfather. She also did something with the organization To Write Love On Her Arms. Those are the things she does publicly, no idea if she supports more organizations that people simply don’t know about. I would say her getting an award like that makes sense.

So what does the media do? They question whether she is the right person to receive that award. Why? Because of her “wild” behavior and being a bad role model. Of course all scandals are being dragged up again. From the most recent one, the bong; to the oldest ones like the Vanity Fair pictures. That her dad Billy Ray did an interview with GQ didn’t help, especially seeing all the media fail to notice that things have changed since that interview was given. Read the rest of this entry »

Role Models

December 28th, 2010

The role model; a person that is admired by young people and how they are trying to emulate. That’s more or less the definition of the term but to be completely honest; it’s all bullshit and the term shouldn’t be allowed to be used in that way, I don’t mean for the sake of the kid’s that admire them but also for the sake of the celebrities themselves. Image is Everything

December 19th, 2010

When you read any sort of thing about young stars these days, there is this one thing that always keeps coming back. The ever so important image, the idea that stars create a certain persona around themselves to attract a certain portion of society to themselves. The problem I however see is that the assumption is made that everyone does it, that for every celebrity there is a well thought out plan as to how develop this image. So as to how they are seen by other people.

I don’t believe that that is the case. As far as I see it, there are three sorts of people. People who seem to care too much about their image, people who do what feels right but still think about it and there are those who just don’t care about it at all. To illustrate what I mean I’m going to use three examples. For the first group Selena Gomez, for the second Miley Cyrus and for the third Taylor Momsen. Why those three? Mainly because the media likes to report on them the most, though they generally put Taylor in the same category as Miley which I don’t agree with. Some of them even turn it into an image competition.

It shows in everything really, let’s start with the kind of interviews they do for example. Selena is rarely caught on any even remotely questionable opinion, everything she says is just safe. Which as such isn’t a bad thing but it makes her just seem a bit distant, not very emotional, no real passion about something. You always get the impression that she thinks about every word she says and there better not be anything bad. Read the rest of this entry »

Miley’s Career High

December 11th, 2010

Miley Cyrus fucked up majorly and yes, it probably will hurt her career. Everyone knows that this is about Miley smoking Salvia out of a bong a couple of days after her birthday. No point in posting the video, everyone has seen it already anyway. While I don’t make it that public on here, I am Dutch. This means I live in a country where there it is possible to buy certain soft-drugs as they are called, in a regulated manor. I personally however do not agree with laws like this and am very anti-drug myself.

Miley smoked Salvia which is a substance which is legal in California so in that sense she didn’t do anything illegal. I personally however feel that substances shouldn’t be legal either, however they are. I also realize that this is my personal view and that a lot of people don’t agree with it, it’s not my choice. In the end it’s the law that decides and everyone can do what they want in that sense. So Miley didn’t break any law, she made the choice to smoke Salvia. It’s her choice, not mine.

I have stated before that I don’t agree with this whole role model nonsense, parents should be raising their kids, not celebrities. They can look up to celebrities of course but the celebrities aren’t the ones who set their moral boundaries, their own experiences in life and their parents should take care of that. However, it is a fact that people see her as a role model whether it be right or not. So she has to consider that if she does something it can affect her career. Read the rest of this entry »

The Naughty Media List

December 6th, 2010

People who read this blog probably have noticed before; I have major issues with the way the media behave themselves, especially when it comes to celebrities. Lies are told and facts are hidden. Anything for a story rather than focus on the human aspect of it all. I know I usually don’t like to point out individuals but in some way I had it and especially at the end of the year with people making up crap lists to who was bad this year. Well, two can play at that game (I am also aware that in doing this I’m going them attention). Read the rest of this entry »
