Running a site like this seems lonely at times……. 99% of websites about celebrities seem to be about one thing; wanting celebrities to fail. Of course I know there are fan sites but those are just focused on one person, plenty of their visitors want others to fail and enjoy bad news on competitors of their idols.
Honestly I don’t get it, why is it so hard to be positive once in a while? You don’t know what I’m talking about? Lets give some examples. Lets start with Lindsay Lohan; of course she has screwed up majorly in the past couple of years; there’s no way around that and it’s not something she herself would deny. Every single article about her that’s out there seems to be about when she’s going to relapse or when she screws up the next time. There are even plenty of sites out there that are pretty much praying that she relapses for some weird reason. Of course I don’t know if she’ll relapse or not, I have doubts about that myself at times.
Lindsay taking a sip of champagne is enough for all sites to call out and say that she’s relapsing, yet we haven’t seen her drink anything besides that sip of champagne. What surprises me most about that video is that Lindsay is a big deal while Hayden Panettieres under age brother is drinking champagne in the same video. If you cry outrage about one thing you would have to do the same for something like that.
All pictures or videos of her at an event or of her going out is being analysed in such a way that it gets seen as a sign of relapse. Fact is, we simply don’t know if she will relapse. Seems to me that Lindsay herself also sees things like this; basically seeing how people want her to screw up again. It’s not really a good motivation for her to stay clean; I would think that positive reinforcement is important for someone who’s recovering from addiction. Of course I’ve said negative things about her at times but I never wanted her to screw up, it’s just something that happened.
It really makes me wonder at times how big the influence of the media on people like Lindsay is. If someone doesn’t have a very strong self image it doesn’t take that much to make someone relapse. So if anything all those negative report might even lead to Lindsay relapsing; she might be okay without all the negative things. Though she might be fine even without all the negative reinforcement, it’s just something we’ll have to wait and see about.
With the younger generation it’s exactly the same, with just one difference; they haven’t screwed up yet. Prime example in this case would be the current tween queen Miley Cyrus. Yes there were some pictures of her where she was showing a side of herself that didn’t exactly comply with her Disney image; I already addressed that at an earlier date. Certain media outlets use that as a sign that she’ll screw up just as much as someone like Lindsay in the future. Just the fact that Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears started out with Disney seems to be enough reason for people to believe that she’ll end up like them. I can name a dozen former Disney stars that haven’t ended up like that easily.
From recent weeks I can see two good examples of how the media is trying to make Miley look like a bad girl. The first one is, is that she attended one of the pre-Grammy parties. Getting out of the party she apparently stumbled a bit and paparazzi photographed this. Of course certain media outlets reported this as Miley being drunk (missing the fact that she was balancing on a curb in high heels, I myself don’t wear heels for obvious reasons but I can imagine that it makes you stumble a bit). Honestly though people; think. InStyle (the magazine that threw the party) would never allow a fifteen year old guest to get drunk at one of their parties, that would be a killer for their image and would probably result in some legal issues as well. Not to mention that her mother could be seen in the background of the picture, Tish Cyrus of course is going to allow her fifteen year old daughter to get drunk with her present. Or she must be an extremely bad parent which doesn’t seem to be the case.
Another example is one which wasn’t that widely spread because it was just too vague. Several sites and forums still reported the rumour of there being a picture Miley doing weird things (humping it was one of the things mentioned) to a dolphin statue in Las Vegas. First of all it wouldn’t have been such a bad thing but at some point the image actually surfaced; even in high resolution. So what was it? Miley did some dolphin training thing at a resort in Las Vegas with her family, so just a harmless family activity (not harmless to the dolphins but that’s something Miley has to take up with our starlet whale protector Hayden Panettiere).
Those are just rather harmless examples though, I’ve seen far worse things being said about Miley and other young celebrities, I just mentioned these examples because they clearly show this trend. People just want these starlets to screw up so people can make fun of them. But honestly, why? Is it really the always mentioned jealousy factor? To some extent probably, somehow people just like to see people that accomplished a lot suffer. Try to be positive once in a while, they’re humans just like we are so some of them will screw up; Lindsay is hardly the only one that went to rehab. It doesn’t mean that everyone that comes after them will end up the same way, everyone is his own person. At least give them a chance.
Maybe the editorial this week was a bit random but it’s my site so I don’t really care.
