Scarlett Johansson’s first album Anywhere I Lay My Head has hit stores, here’s what I think of it.
The first song on the album is Fawn which only consists of organ music. I don’t get that, Scarlett doesn’t write her own music why would she put a music only song on there? The second song is Town with no cheer, Scarlett already has a low voice yet she tries to sing (well more talk in this case) even lower resulting in her voice actually cutting out at times. The third song is Falling Down which I already discussed when the video for it came out.
The fourth song is Anywhere I lay my head, also the name of the album. The problem with this song is that the music is far louder than her voice (though that seems to be a general thing on this album) what’s the point of an album if you can’t really hear the singer? Song number five is, don’t know actually, didn’t listen to it completely skipped through it. Just more of the same stuff as with the earlier songs.
That’s the problem with the album really, all songs are just depressing and it’s hard to actually notice any singing in them. It’s just overpowering music with someone talking through them. Though the song I don’t want to grow up isn’t actually as depressing, it’s more of a pop sound but yet again you can barely hear Scarlett. All in all Falling Down is actually the best song on the album, that’s quite depressing really and it’s not caused by the depressing theme of the album.
Sorry Scarlett, I love you (as an actress) but this album just sucks. Everyone is free to sing, doesn’t matter whether someone can sing or not. Just doesn’t mean everyone should be putting out albums. Just stick to acting honey.
I probably should come up with a ranking system for this site for albums. Well here we go, one out of five points. The one is for the effort.
