Edition 57: Where’s Ali?

mostly-ghostly-dvd-coverIt’s been a while now since Living Lohan aired on TV; during it’s short run (it was only a nine episode season, whether it will be back is unknown) it got quite some attention in the media though a lot of it was mockery. I also mocked the reality show about the life of Dina Lohan and her kids; though mainly about the reality part seeing there was none, the show was a bit too clearly scripted. The main purpose of the show however was to launch Ali Lohan’s career. So how did that go?<!–more–>

The only thing we’ve seen since then is the straight to DVD movie Mostly Ghostly based on a book by R.L. Stine. I never have high expectations of straight to DVD movies but sometimes they actually turn out to be fairly decent. Sadly Mostly Ghostly is not; the lead character is plain old annoying and I don’t even know why Ali is on the cover of the DVD; she’s nothing more than a support character. In fact she only serves as eye candy for teenage boys watching this movie would be my guess. Her appearance doesn’t really excel good acting either though that’s a problem with most of the people in the movie. So not exactly a career highlight Ali.

Next up in her movie career is supposed to be Troll; a remake of a rather bad 80′s fantasy movie which has a bit of a cult following. There hasn’t been any news on the projects for months so I’m starting to doubt whether this project actually has enough backing to go through. The only thing this project has gotten Ali so far is jokes about her having auditioned for a porn producer who’s venturing out into more conventional movie making. It’s not like he can cast her for any other of his projects in the next four years so the jokes are a bit pointless. Who knows what will happen in this four years, her acting career isn’t going anywhere quickly yet so it can’t hurt to have a backup plan.

The main focus of Living Lohan however was her music career; they followed her how she recorded songs in Las Vegas. Since Living Lohan only All The Way Around was released and that was with little success. The supposedly official music video which was nothing more than a bunch of clips from Living Lohan badly cut together didn’t help it either. I was actually expecting an album to follow soon after the single was released. There were some fake track listings online for a while but never anything official. So what happened to all the recordings from Ali’s visit to Las Vegas? I highly doubt she only recorded a single song.

She does have a record deal with Maloof Music which is part of Interscope Records so there should be something coming out at some point. That nothing has been released so far suggests to me that what they have simply isn’t good enough, that they need to return to the studio. She’s going the same way as her sister in that department. Lindsay has been talking about and supposedly recording an album since she came out of rehab really. We’ve only seen one single of her so far and the given release dates weren’t reached. In either case it’s a case of I believe there is an album when it’s released.

There was also a rumor going around about well known music manager Johnny Wright being interested in taking Ali under his wing. This rumor was fueled by a statement from Dina Lohan saying that they were meeting with his form. That statement however was quickly followed by a statement from Johnny Wright’s firm saying that they never had any interest in Ali. It’s always impossible to tell who’s speaking the truth in a case like that; it’s probably an on the fly statement from Dina which was taken way out of proportion. A company meeting with someone doesn’t always mean that they have an interest in that person.

That is however the only headline her music career has made lately and it’s not exactly a good one seeing she’s being rejected by a major company. That doesn’t mean that her career will fail it’s just something that makes me feel confident that her career will succeed. Living Lohan didn’t do that either because it implied a bad work ethic on Ali’s part. She never seemed as someone who’s really committed to a career like that. They couldn’t cut out all the whining even on her first day of recording.

Ali has been named as someone people should look out for in the future but I’m just not seeing it. Her efforts so far just aren’t good enough. Though I have to admit it’s a bit unfair to judge someone who basically just started her career but she’s asking for it. They felt they needed Living Lohan to improve Ali’s chances for a career so far it hasn’t worked but only put her under more scrutiny. Right now she’s still nothing more than Lindsay Lohan’s sister who tries to make use of her spotlight.
