Review: Fearless

fearless-coverI first have to point out that I’ve never really listened to Taylor’s music. So this review isn’t going to contain any comparison to her debut album.

Lets start with some basics; Taylor is a country singer. The thing wit hthe new generation of music artists is that the differences between genres are fading. You can rarely call someone pure pop, rock, country or any other genre anymore. The same is true for Taylor’s Fearless. Sure there will always be a certain country “twang” to her music as people call it. People that aren’t into country music will also be listening to her music though.

Taylor pretty much took care of writing the album (with some help of course, no one ever writes an album completely alone) and that always gives someone a plus on Starletviews. There are too many young singers that just show up at a music studio, are given a song and then record it; they aren’t true musicians. Another thing that gives her music a plus is that there are actual instruments involved in making the music, it didn’t just come out of a computer. Good electronic music isn’t a bad thing there is just too much generic electronic music at the moment. In country music instrumental is normal and so it makes sense that Taylor does it the same way.

The album is actually a decent length with a total playing time of 54:43 which is a lot longer than a lot of other current day albums. Taylor is also one of those singers that doesn’t actually need digital enhancement. When you listen to the album you’ll find that overall there isn’t really any weak point. Of course there are good songs and some filler tracks but almost no one has ever been able to write an album with only brilliant songs. To name the strongest songs I would say you’d end up with Fearless, You Belong With Me and the first single and music video Love Story (interesting detail in the music video is the presence of Miley Cyrus’ boy- and/or family friend Justin Gaston). They’re simply solid catchy songs.

The rest of the album is just a balanced mix of balads, pop songs and more country oriented songs. It’s not an album that will set new benchmarks in music but it’s just a good strong album. One thing is clear; genres are fading and Taylor is in the middle of it; just don’t expect her to do any death metal songs anytime soon. What also helps the album is that it’s not pretentious at all and that Taylor isn’t trying to be someone she isn’t. From Starletviews she gets a strong four out of five.
