It was once meant to further science, to share data between scientists. The internet has evolved into a new form of communication that is rotten to the bone. Translated to the theme of this website it means that it’s not a very nice place for young celebrities.
I’ve been around on the internet, visited numerous websites, blogs, youtube, forums and who knows what else. A lot of them deal with the daily issues of celebrities which in itself isn’t a bad thing. It’s just a development, people have always been interested in celebrities. Mostly in admiration of celebrities, as fans. There has also always been hatred of celebrities, with the internet however that hatred is more public than ever before. Though public it’s also easy, there is no one who will really hold you accountable for behavior on the internet.
What does that translate to? That there are a whole bunch of assholes who feel the need to publish their hatred for someone. Yes assholes, do these people even know what they are doing? When you ask them about it, odds are is that they are only stating their opinion. Well actually…. No it’s not, it’s called cyberbullying. Just because they don’t know the celebrity personally it’s still nothing less than bullying.
Now it’s easiest to use an example. I’ve never seen so much hatred directed at any young celebrity as Miley Cyrus has endured (no, this has nothing to do with her having deleted her Twitter, thought he same principles apply there). She’s being called a slut, a whore and who knows what else on sites. The worst place for things like that are comments on blogs. People claiming to be parents of kids and then calling a sixteen year old girl they don’t personally know a slut or a whore. Stellar parents they must be, especially seeing they only believe what they want to believe instead of actually looking at a simple thing called a fact. Not to mention that I doubt that they would anyone making comments like that about their child.
Just because something is written on a blog, it doesn’t make it fact. Just like this blog, I see myself as someone who tends to look at facts but in the end there is always a personal opinion. My opinion on people who go out of their to hate people they don’t know is that they’re assholes. I would think they’d have better things to do than go on a rant about how bad a person Miley Cyrus is again and again. Sure I visit celebrity forums and blogs but on a forum I will only enter a discussion. Blog comments? Are a waste of time if i you ask me, you won’t catch me doing that (don’t hold the one or two times that I’ve done it against me).
Am I saying that people have to like Miley Cyrus? Of course not, it’s natural for people to dislike other people even on first impressions. That they don’t like her work is just an opinion and that is something they are entitled to. That is something people have to make up for themselves though, there is no need to go on a quest and tell people how horrible a person she is. How she has sex with everyone she bumps into, doesn’t matter if they are older than her. Which is never an impression I got from her but people like Perez Hilton have said it so it must be true (as an experienced internet user I also know that sarcasm isn’t a concept understood by everyone, so here the disclaimer that that comment was indeed sarcasm).
I never got the relentless hatred towards Miley anyway. Is the jealousy really that bad? She is basically the most famous celebrity in all of history and that is something very few people will dispute. Does she deserve it? She achieved it didn’t she? So why wouldn’t she deserve it? She worked for her success so who is anyone to dispute that success. That people think that she is only famous because of her dad need to look at it more closely. Seeing she surpassed her dad’s celebrity status by a couple of factors by now, not to mention the completely different starting fanbase. Even if the name helped her at times, who cares? She’d be an idiot for not taking certain advantages, I don’t think there isn’t any person who can say that they wouldn’t have done it if they had been in a position like that.
Hatred on the internet is pretty much pointless and in principle wrong. Just because you don’t know someone it doesn’t mean that they’re fair game to bully. Bullying in schools has always been a problem and probably always be, it’s usually the weak ones that are a target. Now with the internet and celebrities it’s the bigger and the more successful they are that are a target. Because you’re so cool and tough when you call a sixteen year old that you don’t actually know a slut.
So the simple conclusion in the end? Those assholes should grow up and probably should go find something they enjoy rather than hate. That will make it a lot easier on everyone, the likes of me who look at the positive don’t have to deal with their crap. I know that these assholes don’t know who they are, seeing they are only stating their opinion but I still felt like saying it. I don’t expect it to change either, it’s just a sad fact these days. Perfect behavior can’t be expected anyway, everyone has their shallow and weak moments. There are just those who do it all the time and who lack all common sense to see what they are doing.

Amazing blog. Very well written and I liked to hear your opinion on this issue.
I, for one, am used to the hate when it comes to celebrities but I never quite understand what’s exactly behind it. What’s fueling these people to go on gossip sites and make a demeaning, hateful comment about someone they’ve never met? It’s natural for us people to dislike other people but the thing with celebrities is – none of us know them on a personal level. Looks can be deceiving. It’s perfectly fine to not like their acting or singing but it crosses a line when you go on a hating rampage against that person.
It hurts me to see all of the hate fueled towards Miley. People like to use excuses to justify their actions, like ‘She knew what she was getting into’ ‘It comes along with the territory’ Even though it comes along with the fame package, it still doesn’t make what these people are saying right.
What has Miley done to these people? She’s never met them or done anything whatsover to them. I guess taking pictures and sending them to your then boyfriend results in millions of people throwing demeaning names towards you.
People need to realize that Miley is a human being with feelings. She’s not perfect nor has she claimed to be. She’s liable to make mistakes. Making mistakes doesn’t make you a bad person. That’s how you learn, is from making mistakes.
I wish that some of these people would at least think before they type. But, I’m guessing that I’m asking way too much. Their harsh comments could cause death, suicide, eating disorders, depression, self harm, etc.
Hopefully these people will get a taste of their own medicine. I can guarantee you that most of the haters on the internet wouldn’t have the balls to say the stuff that they type to Miley’s face. It’s so easy to sit behind a computer screen and unleash hate. Sad that these people call demeaning comments an opinion. There’s a difference between an opinion and downright hating.
I’d like to think that half of her haters on those gossip sites are immature and ignorant. It seems like some of them haven’t experienced the real world.
I could go on and on about this subject for days but I’ll spare you one.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
