I can imagine that people will wonder what the tittle is all about, who on earth is Zoe Carter? Well, there is an easy explanation; Zoe Carter is a character on a SyFy show called Eureka played by Jordan Hinson. I don’t really expect people to be familiar with either the show or the actress but I really do love the show Eureka. Part of it is just the funny setting and also a cast that just seems to work and Jordan of course is part of that cast. Her character Zoe is just funny and she does one hell of a job portraying the character. At the end of last season however the character Zoe Carter announced that she’d be going to Harvard, so leaving the town of Eureka.
Now at the time I did not know that Jordan was actually leaving the show, I only found that out at a later point. Though I of course don’t know all the reasons for her leaving Eureka but the most obvious seems to be that she got signed to have a role in the ABC sitcom Hank. Now for an actress that is a big chance, being on a sitcom on a major network with the main star being Kelsey Grammer. So I don’t think anyone can blame her for making that move. The problem with Hank however is that it has already been canceled, after only nine episodes aired.
I tried watching the show but it just didn’t work for me, the show just wasn’t funny and the cast didn’t really work either. Now Kelsey is known as a good actor but not on this show, I’m also sad to say that Jordan in my eyes didn’t do well on this show either. So what’s the problem? Is the character of Zoe Carter the only thing she can do? It made me wonder but the thing is that I could only compare her on Hank and Eureka, I’ve never seen her in anything else. Looking for other things she has done didn’t help that much either, the only movie she has ever really done is some direct to DVD movie called Glass House: The Good Mother. I tried finding it but I just couldn’t so what to do?
Then the last weekend, flipping through the TV guide, the thing actually comes on TV. So would I finally get my question answered? Now this is a straight to DVD movie so I didn’t expect that much from the movie and the beyond obvious plot twists were to be expected. In the end however it was actually a decent movie for what it is and I was also glad to see that Jordan did a good job. So yes she can act and Eureka isn’t just a fluke. So what was the problem with Hank? Even the ABC big shots blame it on the writing so I guess we’ll have to leave it at that.
So what will she do now? Eureka starts a new season in July and I hope she will be back on it, even if it’s not on an as regular bases as before. Characters have been replaced on that show before but I think that Zoe is actually quite an important character, so I hope it for both the best of the show and for Jordan’s career. Of course I don’t know what she’s up to exactly but her IMDB page is very empty right now. If she doesn’t return to Eureka I’ll miss her on the show I think. It could even be that I am worried about nothing and that they always planned for her to do guest appearances.
This made me think about one thing though, how hard it is for actors to pick the right role. Sure, a show on SyFy is more than most actors will ever achieve but when you get the chance to appear on a major network, I think it’s a chance that pretty much everyone would take. If not for the money I’d think it’s also a chance to open more doors in the future. Which it might have done already in contacts but I don’t think it got her noticed by the general public. So no I don’t blame Jordan for leaving the show, do I like that she left the show? I don’t know yet, the fourth season doesn’t start until July after all. I still say I want Zoe Carter back.
Just shows you how difficult something like show business is. A lot of depends on chances you get in a career, when you get a chance to do something bigger 99% of people is going to take it. There however is always the danger that it isn’t the chance someone hoped for.
