Miley Cyrus has now released a new music video for her new song Can’t Be Tamed. While most people will go on about how inappropriate the video is, how she is trying to grow up too fast and showing too much skin they fail to see the true artistic masterpiece this video is, full of symbolism.
It already starts in the introduction how she is a creature that was believed to be extinct. It couldn’t be closer to the truth, in today’s Hollywood there are a lot of people who seem and probably are fake. However Miley is not one of them, she works hard, she does what she wants and not what other people tell her. She also took part in writing this song, something that sadly can also be rare these days. So yes, she is a creature on the verge of extinction.
When she is revealed yes there is some skin shown. However people fail to see the symbolism of the birdcage in that case. People in Hollywood are forced to change at times, she refuses to do also shown by the lyrics of Can’t Be Tamed. Birds which are kept in captivity aren’t always very happy birds to say it mildly. When birds are caged up and they don’t get a chance to be free they start to rip out their own feathers. So they would be showing a lot of skin. The people who outright dismiss her as trying to be too sexy are clearly not seeing this strong symbolism.
While most of the video was clearly meant for the mass market with a whole lot of dancers it doesn’t make it less of an art piece. Things like that have to be added at times to make it appeal to a wider audience and that’s what it should do with the message the video is sending.
Of course the whole wardrobe for Miley in particular is a work of art by itself. With the metal corset she’s wearing in particular, it can clearly be seen that a lot of craftsmanship went into that. This wasn’t a rush job, they took care in designing the whole video.
So yes while most people will most likely complain about the video being too edgy, these people however are missing something by not opening mind to the art it actually is.
