So Emily Osment has her first album, Fight or Flight, out and the good news is; none of the songs from her EP made it. Not that the songs were bad, it just prevents people from thinking “wasn’t this just a way to get more money out of it” so at least she takes that seriously. Let me also point out that I’m not going to go into what Emily has said about what she thinks about pop music in the past, the music is pure pop so I will judge it as such.

As I said, it’s pure pop music, that’s just the best way I can describe it. It’s not any kind of sub-genre or anything, it’s just pop, even if they want to describe it differently. If you’re expecting deep lyrics or a “this is Emily!” feeling, because it’s not there. If anything that’s the main criticism I have on the album, the girl is 18, sure she hasn’t had a long run in music yet but people younger than her like Miley Cyrus or Taylor Momsen (ignoring whether that is sincere or not) can come up with them so why not Emily? She however did have a role in writing all of them so that wins her back some points, the general feeling is just a bit too….. teeny.

The singles off the album are Let’s Be Friends and Lovesick. The first is likable enough to listen to on the radio the second one….. yeah, don’t like it. You make my heart go boom boom? Yeah, really not feeling that one. Though in her case I don’t actually think it will manage that much, she’s not really being pushed as a big artist.

So what songs on the album are good? I like Double Talk which isn’t anything complicated, it’s a nice and simple track with some dance beats to it. Marisol is another good song, it’s a slow song, more of a ballad. It’s a song that just feels right for Emily, so vocally and style wise. The danger with songs like that is also that singers go a bit overboard in the vocal department but that isn’t the case her at all. It’s just a good solid song.

What stands out negatively? Really not digging a song like All the Boys Want, just not feeling it, just a no from me. 1-800 Clap Your Hands? Sorry, doesn’t make me clap either, really don’t get the point of that song, it’s just a bit all over the place.

For the rest the songs on the album don’t really stand out, not in the bad, not in the good. They’re just a bit average really. I think that is the best way to describe it, an average pop album. So an average rating would be 3 out of 5, though at the lower end of that rating I have to admit. I do wish there would have been something more substantial to the album, be it musically or lyrically.

It has been a while now since Emily Osment announced that she was working on an album. I was starting to wonder when she would release something, now the time has come that she is releasing something. The EP All the Right Wrongs with only six tracks. Which seems not a lot but looking it’s impossible to know how much time she’s had for it, the focus will be on the music. It’s at least not pretending to be an album, though a play time of 19 minutes seems even short for an EP.

When Emily first announced that she was signed to an independent label that was sort of exciting, in general they seem to give their artists a bit more freedom. Thing is that she signed with Wind-Up Records which is independent but also the biggest independent record company out there. That however comes with perks like a sold distribution and some funds for production etc. The writing credits are unknown at the time of writing but to my knowledge Emily did have involvement with every song on the EP. Now to the music though this is going to be short.

Now looking at the favorite artists she lists in interview and the fact that she signed with a label which is more rock got my hopes a bit for something new. Something that most of the artists in her age group don’t release (mainly her fellow Disney stars, though they’re not going to be compared here as such). There is some rock there but there’s also a whole lot of pop.

The first single from the EP, All The Way Up, I actually see as the weakest track on the EP. Just seems a bit generic but the first versions of that song already leaked something like a year ago so it’s safe to assume that she developed a bit since then. The themes lyrics wise are what they should be, those of a teenager. She still is a teenager so she should write songs based on what she knows. A song like I Hate the Homecoming Queen fits in that, not sure if Emily went to a normal high school but if she did I wonder who has to feel offended now.

There is some variation in pace on the EP, songs like What About Me are a bit slower pace than the rest. Which is welcome seeing albums which go on in one and the same pace tend to get a bit boring, there has to be some variation. All in all the songs are enjoyable and quite alright, her singing voice is more distinctive than I had expected. You can hear it’s Emily Osment so the amount of computer involvement seems limited.

Now what I find important is that there is some personality to an album (or EP in this case) so does it feel like Emily? I would say so, the themes fit her age and it sounds personal enough. The best tracks I would have to name What About Me, Average Girl and Found Out About You so the three slower paced songs. Not that the faster paced ones are bad, I just like the other three better. In the end I couldn’t help but get a little Avril Lavigne feel to the EP, that’s not a bad thing I’d say. End result? I’d say a strong start but I hope she comes with more soon. You can’t build a music career based on six songs. Four out of five.

Welcome back to the only celebrity ranking list that truly matters (to us anyway seeing we made it). It’s the most realistic one you’ll find on the internet seeing it was decided by as little people as possible. We don’t ask millions of people for their opinion so that people can vote over and over again for the same person.

The list is based on who we think is the starlet in Hollywood that had the most development in her career. We also look at what projects they have ahead of them and if those will help them to improve their careers.

10.Shailene Woodley; after a very short stint on the OC in 2004 all Shailene did was guest star on TV shows and do a couple of TV movies. Her career wasn’t going anywhere fast but that changed this year. With the ABC Family show The Secret Life Of the American Teenager she put herself on the map. Though that’s also where she lacks a bit; right now it’s still the only project on her horizon.

9.Taylor Momsen; her main fame is for Gossip Girl of course besides that she hasn’t actually done that much in the past year. Not that much planned for next year either, her main rise in fame this year is due to media attention. Nothing really shocking or negative just attention and that counts for something too. People need to know your name before they can consider you for something.

8.America Ferrera; was ranked a lot higher last year but The Sisterhood Of the Traveling Pants 2 didn’t do too well at the box office. That combined with the Ugly Betty buzz going down a bit she still is well on her way in her career but just not moving as fast as last year.

7.Blake Lively; her being ranked seventh is more or less a combination of numbers eight and nine. She was also in the Sisterhood Of the Traveling Pants 2 and is of course on Gossip Girl. Just like her co-star Taylor she got quite a bit of media attention in the past year and she has some other stuff coming out next year as well.

6.Selena Gomez; often referred to as the next Miley Cyrus in the past year which is just unfair to her. She’s working on her own career with Wizards of Waverly Place still going strong and she starred in the straight to DVD Another Cinderella Story (though it’s not exactly a masterpiece in movie making to say it nicely). Next year we’ll also see an album from her with her new band, she’s already in the studio busy recording. Thing is that she doesn’t quite have a band yet which makes you wonder.

5.Demi Lovato; the other next Mile Cyrus and best friend of Selena Gomez. In the past year she of course had some success with Camp Rock and she had her first album Don’t Forget. Though the success of both album and movie probably weren’t as high as some people might have hoped there’s still a lot to come. Next year we’ll see her in her own Disney Channel show called Sonny with a Chance.

4.Amanda Seyfried; after Mean Girls she dropped off the radar a bit but she came back with a blast by starring in Mamma Mia. She would have been ranked higher if there was a lot to come next year but sadly for her, her major projects are scheduled for 2010.

3.Emily Osment; she’s climbing the career ladder in the wake of Miley Cyrus on Hannah Montana but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have any assets herself. This year she had the straight to DVD movie Soccer Mom and in a couple of weeks the Disney Channel movie Dadnapped. Next year we’ll still see her in the Hannah Montana and in the Hannah Montana Movie of course which should get her plenty of attention. She’s also busy writing songs so is there a record deal on the horizon?

2.Ellen Page; she’s still ranked second though there were higher hopes for her this year. She of course got the Oscar nomination for her role as Juno but her only major release of this year, Smart People, didn’t quite live up to its promise and didn’t do too well at the box office. She has plenty of projects coming out next year though, including Drew Barrymore’s directing debut Whip It! The biggest project of course would be Jane Eyre but nothing is really known about that project yet.

1.Miley Cyrus; are you as shocked as we are? Yes we are crowd followers in this case by putting Miley Cyrus on top of our list just like everyone else. It’s hard not to put her on top though. Hannah Montana is still going strong despite it being one of the shows hit hardest by the WGA strike. She had her record breaking concert tour, the 3D movie recording also smashed several box office records and even made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. On a side note she also had her third number one album on the Billboard Charts within two years. The Times even calls her the biggest-ever teen star. Next year she also has some things going on with of course Hannah Montana continuing and the movie coming out on top of that. The start of next year will also see the third Hannah Montana soundtrack, she has a biography coming out and Nicholas Sparks is writing a novel for her seeing she’s going to star in the movie base on it. The term unstoppable comes to mind when talking about Miley seeing that’s probably only half of what we’ll see from.

Jailbait: a girl under the age of consent with whom sexual intercourse is unlawful and constitutes statutory rape.

So who’s worth it going to jail for? Here’s our top ten.

10. Miranda Cosgrove: She’s got a nice pair of legs on her but there’s not much else to her. Who knows, she’s only fifteen so who knows what the next couple of years will bring.

9. Emma Roberts: Another nice pair of legs and a cute smile. But she turns eighteen in February so she has no longevity on the list. So just being patient would remove the risks of jailtime.

8. Sofia Vassilieva: People might wonder why she is on this list; she’s not really a starlet that gets a lot of attention except for positive critical reviews. However she did a movie where she had to shave her head; no hair whatsoever. Makes you wonder, did she limit it to her head? It gets the imagination going.

7. AnnaSophia Robb: She’s a cute girl, no way around it. That combined with her latest movie where she smokes in a seductive way earns her a spot in our top ten.

6. Ali Lohan: Her boobs are big enough to spark a plastic surgery rumor and she’s only fourteen years old. That combined with her revealing way of dressing on her show Living Lohan shows a lot of promise for the future; especially seeing she already auditioned for a porn producer.

5. Dakota Fanning: Has been out of the picture for a while, she did a rape movie which didn’t get as much attention as she wanted. Now she’s coming back with a vengeance, in Push she’ll be wearing short skirts. What gets her up to number five however is that she joined her high schools cheerleading squad. Who hasn’t had fantasies about high school cheerleaders?

4. Emily Osment: She doesn’t get the attention she deserves, over the past year she has developed quite a bit in her bust area which sparks some interest from people. She gets a lot of screentime as well and seeing the new season of Hannah Montana promises to be more grown up we should be seeing some nicer outfits. The Hannah Montana movie will probably do the same.

3. Selena Gomez: Hot latina; that’s as much as you can say about her really. So why bother wasting words on it.

2. Miley Cyrus: with the leaked pictures of the past year a lot of the mystery has been taken away which is a pity. She still has an amazing pair of legs and is starting to develop in other areas and she’s only fifteen; she’ll be a forced to be reckoned with. Though a year ago she was dressing more revealing; she’s toned down a bit which is a pity and cost her the top spot.

1. Taylor Momsen: Hot leggy blonde; what else do you want? A seductive look in her eyes with dark eyeliner to increase the effect. Short dresses with straps almost sliding of her shoulders and that at an age of barely fifteen and that while she doesn’t even look her age, what else could you want? There’s just no one out there that can beat her right now.

And now seriously; do you really think we’re going to rank teen celebrities on how hot they are? Of course not but the problem is that a lot of people do, these girls are no wear the legal age and adult people wish they could be in their pants. I’ve pointed out before that some of these girls are dressing above their age. It’s mainly the media and the people that are sexualizing them though, it’s a normal fact that teenagers like to dress up sexy at some point. The thing with these Hollywood girls is just that when you have professionally style hair and make up; they don’t exactly look their age. Just show a person who doesn’t know Taylor Momsen a pic of her at an official event. Just see how many people will guess that she’s only fifteen years old.

There are image forums around the internet where pictures of celebrities are shared. Last year these forums had rules that stated that pictures of celebrities under the age of fourteen weren’t allowed. Then however Miley Cyrus came along and she wore short dresses a couple of times and got some attention. After the comments got out of hand and were far too inappropriate at least two of the bigger image forums actually changed their rules to no pictures of celebrities under the age of sixteen.

Then there is the pedobear thing. Most people won’t have heard about it probably but it’s a growing thing around the internet. When something is considered sexy and the person it is about is a minor the pedo bear is pulled into it. Though I have to admit that the pedobear thing is mostly used in good fun; nothing bad is meant by it. It does show a general tendency to sexualize minors though.

It’s just something that’s in our society though; it’s not like it can be changed though it might just be a phase. The image forums changing their rules is only a stopgap measure anyway; Miley turns sixteen in a month.

Every year Disney releases the so called Disneymania CD’s, this year they’re up to number six. All songs on the album are old Disney songs from various movies. Some of the songs are changed though, so things like melodies and pace. So I’m not really going to judge this one on lyrics seeing they had no role in picking the lyrics.

The first song on the album is If I Didn’t Have You by Mitchel Musso and Emily Osment, recently I wrote about their music video so if you want my specific opinion about that song you can check it out there. It’s followed by That’s How You Know by Demi Lovato; I have to admit that this is the first full song I’ve heard of Demi. She of course only got recently signed to Hollywood Records. In all honesty I’m not that impressed by her; sure she can sing but for this song she shows that several aspects of her voice are still a bit untrained. This combined with the song being too much of a vocal range exercise it doesn’t turn out too well. There’s nothing wrong with showing off vocal talents, overdoing it just isn’t a good thing either (if you want another example check out any recent Mariah Carey song); a song isn’t just about singing.

The next one is Some Day My Prince Will Come by the Cheetah Girls. What to say about this song; to be short it pretty much sucks if you ask me. I just hear a lot of electronically morphed voices over a rather boring audio track. Next up is Kiss the Girl by Colbie Caillat, I have no idea why Colbie is on Disneymania, as far as I can tell she has no connection to Disney at all. It’s just a song really, the girl can sing but I can’t excited by this song from the Little Mermaid.

Selena Gomez (she’s rumoured to be signing with Hollywood Records soon) is next with Cruella De Vil, not a mystery where that song is from. In this case it was morphed into a rock song and there it strikes its main problem. Selena’s voice is barely noticeable over the music, again I don’t really get the lots of morphing going on in some sections of the song. Next up is Billy Ray Cyrus with Real Gone. Billy Ray Cyrus? Yes, Billy Ray is on this one and not Miley, he’s signed to Walt Disney Records after all. It’s a country song so it should fit him but I like the original by Sheryl Crow better.

Eliott Yamin is an American Idol graduate and I have to admit I hate American Idol (or any other Idol) with a passion. I don’t mind people trying to become famous I just don’t like the concept of people being ridiculed and taken advantage of. Anyway, he has the track Can You Feel the Love Tonight on Disneymania. The only thing I have to say about it is that he’s no Elton John. After this we can hear He Lives In You by Elijah Kelley from Hairspray, I really don’t get why they keep doing it on this CD, yet again the music overpowering the lyrics and way too much morphing. A morph effect is nice once in a while but it gets tiring if you listen to this CD.

Next up is Drew Seeley (something I didn’t know, he was actually who did the vocals for Troy Bolton in High School Musical and not Zac Efron, though Zac did them in the second movie himself) with You’ll Be In My Heart. I’m starting to sound like a broken record here, yet again overpowering music and voice morphing. Luckily the next song isn’t the song, it’s When You Wish Upon a Star by Kate Voegele. Compared to what has come so far it’s actually alright, no voice morphing which is a big plus; though the song gets a bit boring after a while.

Keke Palmer does her rendition of the Mulan song Reflection quite alright but can’t say that I can get too excited about it. The Plain White T’s take care of When I see An Elephant Fly, this song seems out of place on this album. Why? Well, it’s acoustic while everything else (I think I’ve mentioned it before) is morphed and electronic. Jordan Pruitt does a cover of Ever Ever After from Enchanted. Why would you do a cover on a song that was released less than a year ago? If it had been a good one it would have been fine with me but Carrie Underwood (despite my hatred for American Idol) does a better job of it.

Kaycee Stroh sings My Strongest Suit; the only non Disney song on the album, it’s from Aida. This rendition is nothing to get excited about. The last song is A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes by Nikki Blonsky, so another Hairspray actor on the album. There was also a rumor going around that Amanda Bynes would be on it but that turned out to be false. Regarding the song, Nikki Blonsky has far more vocal capabilities than this song. Seems to me like her voice was wasted on this really.

So my general opinion on DisneyMania 6, keeping in mind that it’s mostly aimed at kids (otherwise they wouldn’t use the Disney Channel stars for it) it’s alright. From a pure music perspective it’s boring, the songs are just lesser interpretations of the original songs. So I can’t really go above a two out of five for this one. Keep in mind that I think all the people on this album can sing it’s the music and interpretation of songs that’s the problem.
