Taylor Swift has her third studio album out now called Speak Now. First of I have to say where it stands out is its length; it actually has a playtime of about 66 minutes, when was the last time you’ve seen that? So if you buy the album you’re already getting value for money quantity wise. Sort of like a two for one sale in today’s music. Though I also have to add that I have no idea what the average length of a country album is. Because that’s still what she is, a country artist (fine, pop-country) but with a lot of pop music followers. (more…)

Review: Speak Now
Sunday, October 24th, 2010Review: Hannah Montana Forever
Monday, October 18th, 2010
Did you realize that it actually has been over a year since the release of the previous Hannah Montana soundtrack? Kind of odd thinking about it, looking at what pace they used to be pushed out. Fits with the Disney stretching Hannah Montana as long as it can, though I’ve gone over the problems with that before. Anyway now it’s time for the fourth (fifth if you count the movie soundtrack) and last soundtrack; Hannah Montana Forever. So after this, Miley Cyrus recording albums as Hannah Montana will be a part of history. Bit strange really, seventeen year old artist and you know for sure it’s their last album ever. Imaginary artist but odd nonetheless. (more…)
Review: Fight or Flight
Tuesday, October 12th, 2010
So Emily Osment has her first album, Fight or Flight, out and the good news is; none of the songs from her EP made it. Not that the songs were bad, it just prevents people from thinking “wasn’t this just a way to get more money out of it” so at least she takes that seriously. Let me also point out that I’m not going to go into what Emily has said about what she thinks about pop music in the past, the music is pure pop so I will judge it as such. (more…)
Review: A Year Without Rain
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010
Selena Gomez & The Scene released their second album now (though I still have issues accepting them as a band rather than a solo act) titled A Year Without Rain. It fits perfectly in modern albums with its length of ten songs and total play time of 35 minutes. (more…)
Review: Light Me Up
Saturday, August 28th, 2010
This review can be kept quite short, a little over two months ago The Pretty Reckless released their EP and now the album Light Me Up is out. Usually you’d expect a little more time between EP an album but I don’t work in the release department of Interscope so I don’t know. Not that it’s much more than the EP, with ten songs and barely 34 minutes of play time it fits the trend of ever shorter albums.
One of the songs of the EP didn’t make it to the album but seven others were added. As for the themes of the album, they’re more of the same though that isn’t really surprising, the EP really should be seen as a preview of the album. So for the most part I’m going to refer back to the earlier review for that aspect.
So what are the best songs on there? I’d say Miss Nothing, Just Tonight and strangely enough the slower Nothing Left to Lose. Despite my reservations certain content in those songs. They’re just pleasant to listen to, mainly the last two. One thing I have to point out though is that I’m never that impressed with Taylor’s vocals, I’d call them sufficient and well suited for the music but she’ll never stand out as a vocalist.
