In the history of Hollywood there has been some sort of obsession with blondes. This one actress who has everyone’s admiration it seems. If no one has a clue what I’m talking about it’s probably best to mention Marylin Monroe by now, that should explain it all. Over the years there always have been actresses who are sort of the ranking blonde. Right now however I don’t think there is on. Ever since Scarlett Johansson decided to go for a darker hair color there is no ranking blonde actress. Yes there have been people trying to bleach their way into the blonde rankings but it’s just not the same. People like Lindsay Lohan simply aren’t known as blondes so they can never be the ranking blonde actress in Hollywood. So who is it going to be?

I think we have to look at the currently under age actors as to who will become the next one. People could go for people like Kristen Bell but however lovely she might be, if she hasn’t made it to that status by now, I don’t think she’s going to make it. I think there are currently three main candidates we can look at; Dakota Fanning, AnnaSophia Robb and Sofia Vassilieva. Except for their first names ending in a the main thing they have in common is that their hair has the required hair color. Seeing they’re still minors I’m not going to judge them on their vavavoom factor quite yet. Besides, they’re in Hollywood and this might sound a bit harsh but you don’t really see ugly people in Hollywood.

© Summit Entertainment

Lets start with the most famous and youngest one; Dakota Fanning. I’m afraid she’s also the first one where I have to say she’s not going to be the one. She does have the acting talent for it, I think she has shown that in some of her most recent movies like the Secret life of Bees. However in this there is also the matter of perception by the general public. I know too many people who see her as the annoying girl from War of the Worlds and too much as a child star. I still think she’ll have a lengthy career in Hollywood, the public will just never see her as the one blonde superstar. In that sense I don’t think that being on the Twilight cast now will do her a lot of favors either. She now has two things to be stereotyped for, even though she joined Twilight at a later date.

So that leaves AnnaSophia and Sofia and they both share a major advantage in my eyes. If you were to mention either name to a random person on the street there would be some people who know them.

© Overture Films

There however would be a huge amount of people who would have no idea who they are or what they do. Both of them have already built a bit of a resume in Hollywood by now, not that they’re huge movies but it’s more about the people they’ve worked with. Between them they’ve worked with people like Charlize Theron, Helen Hunt, Anjelica Huston, Julie Andrews and that’s only mentioning some of the Oscar winners. There are plenty more Oscar nominated or otherwise well respected and experienced actors in the mix.

Now that itself doesn’t mean much when they don’t make use of it. They however have the chance to learn from some incredibly talented people. A privilige which isn’t there for everyone. Yes of course Dakota has also worked with people like that but AnnaSophia and Sofia don’t really have that child actor stigma stuck on them. Despite Sofia being on a show which is in its sixth season now she isn’t famous enough to get that. AnnaSophia has mostly done movies but again never the big block busters which had her as a main star.

© Warner Brothers

Neither AnnaSophia and Sofia seem to be scared to pick up more challenging roles. Of course Sofia did My Sister’s Keeper in which she had to play a cancer patient which to her own admission wasn’t easy on a personal level. Annasophia is currently filming the movie Soul Surfer which most likely will ask more of her as well. While it’s going to be removed with computers her character still lost an arm in a shark attack. No idea if the movie is going to be any good but I can’t imagine that it’s easy to portray the emotions of a character like that.

So for both of them goes that they are actually talented actresses which is a requirement in becoming the reigning blonde in Hollywood. If they weren’t they wouldn’t be able to make it in Hollywood anyway. So who do I pick? In all reality I don’t know, they both have the goods to become the reigning blonde in Hollywood, only time will tell.

So why a blog post about Miley Cyrus? As if there aren’t enough of those already; well in all reality Miley’s career is at a crossroads. She has to make the transition from teen TV star to a grown up artists. Sure she’s only seventeen right now but if one thing is clear she’s already bigger than herself as a star. People don’t use the term biggest teen star of all time very lightly but in this case it probably applies.

Hannah Montana is ending, Disney is currently filming the fourth and final season of the show. So after that it leaves a large gap, what will Miley do next? Actually quite a lot is known about that already. Though one note has to be made, Hannah Montana is ending but Disney is going to stretch it into 2011. They’ve pretty much had crappy airing schedules since the Writer’s Strike in 2008, doesn’t look like that is going to change anytime soon. Disney seems to be trying to hold on to Hannah Montana as long as it can. Personally I feel that this doesn’t do the show justice at all and I don’t actually know anyone who’s happy about the airing schedule. Nothing I say about it will change it though so I’m leaving the subject.

One “mistake” (it’s always a relative term, one thing can be right for one person and wrong for another) a lot of teen stars tend to do is that they stick with the wrong kind of movie. There are always girls who seem to go with the good girl image (e.g. Selena Gomez) and girls who seem to go with the bad girl image (e.g. Taylor Momsen). They go with roles that seem to focus on the short term, it’s all a bit of the same. There of course also are the actresses don’t really go for any image also because they operate a little more in the background (e.g. AnnaSophia Robb, Sofia Vassilieva, etc).

Looking back at former teen stars the main name which comes to mind is Hilary Duff, after she finished Lizzie McGuire she just stuck with teen movies, your run of the mill comedies and teen dramas. Right now she is struggling to get accepted as a grown actress while I feel like she can actually do it. When you watch the movie According to Greta you see that there is potential there but you can’t help but think “this is Hilary Duff”, someone you’ve seen play the same basic role over and over again but is now trying to change that. The bias of her being just another former teen star still sticks in your mind somehow.

Miley however seems to be doing it a bit differently, her first major movie after Hannah Montana is The Last Song, book and script written by Nicholas Sparks. Playing the role of a rebellious teenager, though the level of rebellion seems to be limited after reading the book, it’s not the most obvious choice. A lot of people would go the safe route and go with what they know which in this case would be teen comedy, instead she chose to go with a drama.

I however think that is a good thing to do, if she doesn’t want to get a certain image stuck on her she has to do things like this. Doing the same role over and over again would only hurt her career. Even though in the larger picture a Nicholas Sparks movie is still somewhat of a safe choice, as people know his movies and there usually isn’t anything too extreme in them and people more or less know what to expect. Whether she can pull off the role of Ronnie is something time will tell, I haven’t seen the movie yet and a trailer isn’t really enough to go by.

The movie roles after that also suggest that she isn’t planning on sticking to one genre. The choice of Wings as a project might seem odd as a lot of people already have reservations about her being in a movie about faeries (for the odd spelling of the word fairy you would have to read the book). Having read the book however I think there is some potential there, the book is actually more adult than it seems. Seeing the line “sex is just for fun” in a book which is targeted at teens it makes you wonder a bit. It all however depends on the writing and how well it translates to a script so only time will tell. While this is a movie targeted at teens it isn’t in the same genre as her previous projects, more a mix of genres really. That’s besides the main thing; it’s a different kind of character.

Then a couple of weeks a project with the weird title LOL (Laughing Out Loud) was announced co-starring with Demi Moore, a remake of a French comedy. While this isn’t official yet everything suggests that this is going to happen (main thing being Miley’s reaction to being asked about it). Yes this is a comedy, however the main subject is sex. I don’t think a lot of her peers with a Disney background would get right to that subject at only seventeen/eighteen. While it’s a very normal subject to talk about it seems that there are still some reservations about it. Especially in the entertainment industry things can get very prude, so I’m hoping the European touch won’t get lost in that movie. Even though I don’t actually know how far the movie goes, disadvantage of not speaking French and there not being subtitled versions of the movie.

So three very different movie projects in the making (there is a fourth one on several website but there has been no evidence whatsoever it’s happening), can she pull it off? I certainly hope so but in the end we will have to wait and see. Miley has stated that she’s going to focus on acting for now, of course she’s also a number one recording artist. She still sells records by the truckload. The most normal thing you’d anyone expect to do is to continue that and sell as many albums as possible. Does Miley do that? No, she does not. Yes a new album is in the making and will come out later this year, after that however it’s going to end for a while. She’s taking a break.

Sometimes I think Miley is a publicists nightmare, what recording artist goes around and say that the music they make isn’t the music they actually want to make? After the next album pop will most likely be gone, she’s going to try and find herself musically. Find the music she wants to make, music that means something. That in all reality is an extremely gutsy move, completely changing her music and actually not release anything for a while. I can only commend her for that, it again is not the most obvious and safest choice. This tells me one major thing about Miley; while she makes truckloads of money and is one of the richest teenagers out there she’s in it for the art and not for the money. Sure money is nice but if she were only in it for the money she would be making different choices, she is planning for a long career and not for a career that just lasts five years.

That impresses me most about Miley actually, she actually seems to stay herself and not who some random manager wants her to be. She and her management seem to do what is right for her in the long run and they aren’t afraid to make changes. That is actually what makes me think that Miley has what it takes to survive in the business the long run, everything just seems well planned out to develop Miley as an artist and not to let her stay the money making machine of Hannah Montana. I think the same can actually be applied to her personal life in some way, so as to what person she actually is.

With a lot of celebrities I’m not always sure who I’m listening to in interviews. Is it the celebrity or is it the publicist in the background telling them what to do and to say? Same goes for public behavior. She actually seems to be a real person when she’s out in public, she’s the person Miley and not the celebrity Miley. It even shows in things like appearance; how many young stars are there with visible body jewelry other than normal earrings? Sure the bellybutton piercing is pretty much a standard with a lot of people but a nose piercing (though I’m aware that she’s not the only young actress with one, just not of big a fame as Miley)? I’ve seen quite some people a bit upset about that thing, be it media or fans. Same goes with that tattoo of hers, she does know that it would get people to react and upset about it (I know that is an assumption but I just can’t imagine that she does not know). She however still does it, in a way that tells me she does what feels right for her and not what feels right for the public eye.

People even comment and complain about the clothes she wears. So she wears what she likes; I don’t see anything overly sexual in it as some people are suggesting. Yes there are outfits where I think “what is she wearing?” but then I move on. No point in dwelling over it, people seem to especially upset with her frequent wearing of short shorts. Honestly there are tons of celebrities who wear them but you never hear anything about it. Miley can’t really help it that it’s quite noticeable with her seeing her legs are 52% of her body length (based on her own statements regarding the length of her legs and her total length). So yes, when she wears short shorts she shows a lot of leg. Besides, everyone gets complaints about what people wear. Celebrities, me, you and whoever else, you can’t make everyone happy with clothing. Also a notable thing in her wardrobe; she wears things more than once which can be a rare thing in Hollywood.

Though sometimes I feel people complain about her just because she’s Miley. Only recently, she was part of the We Are the World 25 recording. Lots of people went on about how Miley ruined the song and it was a disgrace that she was allowed to sing after someone like Barbra Streisand. The key to what this people say what I think is that they know it’s Miley before having heard her sing. Other people who had no idea who was singing were impressed by one line of the song. Then they find out it’s Miley and are surprised. I think she has a great voice, others won’t think so. People also hate singers like Celine Dion though and people call her the best singer in the world. So she can’t be liked by everyone.

There just is such a big hipocrisy in Hollywood, they somehow want every young celebrity to fit to the template of the perfect celebrity. At the same time however they want someone unique, well you cannot be unique without being yourself. Best example of these two-faced people are gossip bloggers like Perez Hilton. They will say they love her one day but won’t hesitate to call Miley a slut the very next day without provocation. I can’t imagine having to live with that, people going out of their way to tell Miley that they hate her or they think she’s a horrible person or just judge her on every little thing she does; in most cases starting with negative assumptions about her. That besides the ever present desire for her wanting to fail because then the bloggers have something to write about and people without any kind of sympathy to laugh about. Those people can think and say what they want (though I wish they weren’t and they shouldn’t actually be doing it), I think Miley is in it for the long run. So they better get used to Miley because I think she’ll be around for decades to come just by being herself.

Doesn’t mean I can’t be wrong about it though, it’s only the impression I get. Who knows I might be all wrong, I sincerely hope I’m not though.

I can imagine that people will wonder what the tittle is all about, who on earth is Zoe Carter? Well, there is an easy explanation; Zoe Carter is a character on a SyFy show called Eureka played by Jordan Hinson. I don’t really expect people to be familiar with either the show or the actress but I really do love the show Eureka. Part of it is just the funny setting and also a cast that just seems to work and Jordan of course is part of that cast. Her character Zoe is just funny and she does one hell of a job portraying the character. At the end of last season however the character Zoe Carter announced that she’d be going to Harvard, so leaving the town of Eureka.

Now at the time I did not know that Jordan was actually leaving the show, I only found that out at a later point. Though I of course don’t know all the reasons for her leaving Eureka but the most obvious seems to be that she got signed to have a role in the ABC sitcom Hank. Now for an actress that is a big chance, being on a sitcom on a major network with the main star being Kelsey Grammer. So I don’t think anyone can blame her for making that move. The problem with Hank however is that it has already been canceled, after only nine episodes aired.

I tried watching the show but it just didn’t work for me, the show just wasn’t funny and the cast didn’t really work either. Now Kelsey is known as a good actor but not on this show, I’m also sad to say that Jordan in my eyes didn’t do well on this show either. So what’s the problem? Is the character of Zoe Carter the only thing she can do? It made me wonder but the thing is that I could only compare her on Hank and Eureka, I’ve never seen her in anything else. Looking for other things she has done didn’t help that much either, the only movie she has ever really done is some direct to DVD movie called Glass House: The Good Mother. I tried finding it but I just couldn’t so what to do?

Then the last weekend, flipping through the TV guide, the thing actually comes on TV. So would I finally get my question answered? Now this is a straight to DVD movie so I didn’t expect that much from the movie and the beyond obvious plot twists were to be expected. In the end however it was actually a decent movie for what it is and I was also glad to see that Jordan did a good job. So yes she can act and Eureka isn’t just a fluke. So what was the problem with Hank? Even the ABC big shots blame it on the writing so I guess we’ll have to leave it at that.

So what will she do now? Eureka starts a new season in July and I hope she will be back on it, even if it’s not on an as regular bases as before. Characters have been replaced on that show before but I think that Zoe is actually quite an important character, so I hope it for both the best of the show and for Jordan’s career. Of course I don’t know what she’s up to exactly but her IMDB page is very empty right now. If she doesn’t return to Eureka I’ll miss her on the show I think. It could even be that I am worried about nothing and that they always planned for her to do guest appearances.

This made me think about one thing though, how hard it is for actors to pick the right role. Sure, a show on SyFy is more than most actors will ever achieve but when you get the chance to appear on a major network, I think it’s a chance that pretty much everyone would take. If not for the money I’d think it’s also a chance to open more doors in the future. Which it might have done already in contacts but I don’t think it got her noticed by the general public. So no I don’t blame Jordan for leaving the show, do I like that she left the show? I don’t know yet, the fourth season doesn’t start until July after all. I still say I want Zoe Carter back.

Just shows you how difficult something like show business is. A lot of depends on chances you get in a career, when you get a chance to do something bigger 99% of people is going to take it. There however is always the danger that it isn’t the chance someone hoped for.

It’s in the media, around the internet, it’s everywhere. The constant debate of who is the bigger and better Disney star, is it Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato? Lets find out.

What can we compare them on? All three of them are active in the same segments of entertainment really, they each have their own Disney Channel show, they have a record deal with Hollywood Records and they do movies. So it should be quite easy to compare them on things, also included will be things like awards of course seeing that is everything the entertainment industry revolves around. We’ll even include some less obvious categories towards the end but we have to be thorough. Points will be awarded, 5 points for a victory, 3 points for a second place and 1 point for the last place. So lets start with the Disney Channel shows, Hannah Montana vs Wizards of Waverly Place vs Sonny With a Chance. Surprisingly when you put them all next to each other in ratings they aren’t actually that far apart. However, all ratings records are held by Hannah Montana and all stores are full of Hannah Montana merchandise and not of Wizards of Waverly Place and Sonny With a Chance merchandise. So Hannah Montana is the winner here, victory for Miley Cyrus. Second comes Selena and third Demi.

Next we get to the record deals, who is the best musician? The only thing that matters in that case is the number of albums they each sell. Miley and Demi have both been on #1 in the Billboard 200, Selena hasn’t even gotten close. So it’s between Miley and Demi, the thing however is that Demi has been on #1 once, Miley has been there five times. Miley’s albums also reached platinum status while Demi’s did not, so the victory goes to Miley Cyrus, Demi second and Selena third.

Movies, all three of them have done them. Lets just make this short, this is another victory for Miley Cyrus. She’s the only one of the three who has actually topped the box office, I will not count Horton Hears a Who for Selena since she might as well have not been in it. Selena however has been in movies that made it into movie theaters while Demi has only been in TV movies so far. So Selena is second and Demi third.

So now to the awards. Not really a point in making this part very long either, Miley has a closet full of surfboards and blimps while Demi and Selena only won a couple. Miley also has a Golden Globe nomination to her credit while that is something Selena and Demi can only dream of. So in this category it’s an easy order of another boring victory for Miley, second Selena and third Demi.

So that’s it for the purely professional comparisons, which results in a standing of Miley first with 20 points, Selena second with 10 points and Demi last with 6 points. So it’s pretty clear that Miley is by far the biggest star of the three success wise, that however isn’t everything that is to a person so we continue with some other things.

Lets start with charity, who’s the bigger philanthropist? Miley has raised millions for charity through her concert tours and also has her own charity. Selena might be an Unicef Ambassador but money wise you don’t really hear a lot from her. Who knows what Demi does for charity, can’t be bothered to find out. So it once again is Miley first, Selena second, Demi third.

The general biggest celebrity can easily be judged by the number of paparazzi pictures that is taken. That one is so easy it doesn’t even need clarification, here we look at the recent history, so the last couple of months. First Miley, second Demi, third Selena. We can also look at what big award shows people are invited to and then the order is almost the same but we just have to switch Demi and Selena.

The standing now is 30 points for Miley, 14 for Selena and 10 for Demi.

Now for the big one, which seems to be what is on the mind of most people. Who is the best role model? Lets look at all three of them individually for that just a little. Lets start with Miley. Miley has a tattoo, a whole array of piercings, she is involved in tons of scandals, even if they are created by the media they reflect badly on her. Her wardrobe choices also earn her a lot of criticism. Selena is a goody two shoes, she never says or does anything that becomes a major scandal, she always dresses appropriately doesn’t have any visual piercings and no tattoos. She can’t be caught in any scandalous outfits either. Demi is being accused lately of dressing too old and there have been some minor scandals. So I guess here for the first time we have an order of Selena first, Demi second and Miley third. Seeing Miley is such a horrible role model.

The end result however remains a land slide victory for Miley, 31 points vs Selena with 19 points and 13 for Demi. So now we once and for all know, Miley is the biggest Disney star.

If people haven’t started wondering by now who the hell wrote this, seeing it’s nothing like the usual blogs on this site; it’s written by the same person as always. I just did what everyone on the internet and in the media seems to do. They love to compare people, using all their own arguments for arguing why one person is better than another. Why? If you like Selena, go and like Selena. If you like Miley, go and like Miley. If you like Demi, go and like Demi. What is the point of trying to justify why you like one person more than another? There is none, it’s all a case of personal preference. So the first 850 words of this blog are completely meaningless, they are just there to prove a point. I don’t care who of the three has more success and I most certainly do not care about that role model bullshit, the concept of which as I’ve said before completely escapes me anyway.

In my eyes the people who try and justify their admiration for someone by putting down someone else are even worse. That’s what all this comparing comes down to and people will always find a reason to be right. So what if Miley for example won a big award, if she did she doesn’t deserve it and whoever gave her that award is pretty much nuts. If people just try to enjoy their favorite celebrity rather than be preoccupied by proving why they are the best to other people, life could be so much easier. Just like who you like and let someone else like who they like, it really isn’t that hard.

Well, it’s my site so I can do whatever I want (within a legal realm). Next question would be why am I review an album from a 22 year old Canadian? She’s hardly a starlet but she falls in the age category of the people on this site, so if I want to review her I will. I also have to admit that I had no idea who she was until a couple of weeks ago. It involves buying Owl City and finding out she’s the opening act but I’m not going to bore anyone with the details.

So who is this LIGHTS? Well, as mentioned it’s a 22 year old female Canadian musician obviously. Reading up on her shows some interesting things, to give some quirky details; she has a quite big Wonder Woman tattoo on her back and two World Of Warcraft related tattoos. Some people would consider that geeky I think but I don’t, to me it shows that she is quite outspoken about what she likes and does. So lets get to the music part now. Her music is referred to as Synthpop (someone from that genre who would be better known would be Metro Station, I just think LIGHTS is a lot better than them. Owl City would also fit the description of Synthpop.) but I think I mentioned before that I don’t look at genres very much, I listen to the music I like, whatever genre it’s in.

It is Synthpop yes so there is a lot of electronic stuff going on, however in this case it’s a choice. For people who doubt that LIGHTS can sing live just check the video below and shut up.

The song she is singing there is called Saviour and it’s the best track of the album if you ask me, just love everything about the song, the music the lyrics, the whole package (I also love the music video so that is attached underneath as well, finally a music video which doesn’t look like it was slapped together). While I have my theories about the origins of the lyrics (I didn’t read up on that, other people are unlikely to do so) but the lyrics can be applied to a lot of situations. Or maybe I’m just biased because the meaning of my birth name is saviour. It’s also the current single of the album, the previous one is Ice which is a good song but doesn’t quite keep up. Other songs that are worth a listen are Lions!, River and The Listening. Actually all songs on there are worth a listen, I can’t say that I can find a bad song on there. I just like the whole thing really.

So what do I think of the album? I actually just love it. It’s a big thing to say but I really do, with the album I just get a feeling that she is presenting her own style of music. That this is the album that she wanted to make and not what some record executive wanted her to make. She’s a co-writer on all the songs so this really is her album. Sound wise it’s just a well rounded mix, every song sounds different and has its own charms. So that is another reason for reviewing the album, I just want to get it out there so people will give her a listen. She might be well known in Canada but outside of those borders not quite yet. I know I’ve never done this before but I’m actually giving it five out of five (as I don’t do halves). Problem with that however is that she better live up to that when she comes out with a new album.
