The role model; a person that is admired by young people and how they are trying to emulate. That’s more or less the definition of the term but to be completely honest; it’s all bullshit and the term shouldn’t be allowed to be used in that way, I don’t mean for the sake of the kid’s that admire them but also for the sake of the celebrities themselves. Saturday, December 11th, 2010Miley Cyrus fucked up majorly and yes, it probably will hurt her career. Everyone knows that this is about Miley smoking Salvia out of a bong a couple of days after her birthday. No point in posting the video, everyone has seen it already anyway. While I don’t make it that public on here, I am Dutch. This means I live in a country where there it is possible to buy certain soft-drugs as they are called, in a regulated manor. I personally however do not agree with laws like this and am very anti-drug myself.
Miley smoked Salvia which is a substance which is legal in California so in that sense she didn’t do anything illegal. I personally however feel that substances shouldn’t be legal either, however they are. I also realize that this is my personal view and that a lot of people don’t agree with it, it’s not my choice. In the end it’s the law that decides and everyone can do what they want in that sense. So Miley didn’t break any law, she made the choice to smoke Salvia. It’s her choice, not mine.
I have stated before that I don’t agree with this whole role model nonsense, parents should be raising their kids, not celebrities. They can look up to celebrities of course but the celebrities aren’t the ones who set their moral boundaries, their own experiences in life and their parents should take care of that. However, it is a fact that people see her as a role model whether it be right or not. So she has to consider that if she does something it can affect her career. (more…)
The Naughty Media List
Monday, December 6th, 2010People who read this blog probably have noticed before; I have major issues with the way the media behave themselves, especially when it comes to celebrities. Lies are told and facts are hidden. Anything for a story rather than focus on the human aspect of it all. I know I usually don’t like to point out individuals but in some way I had it and especially at the end of the year with people making up crap lists to who was bad this year. Grow Up CBS
Thursday, November 18th, 2010I’m not usually the one to jump in on a single episode of a random show but I’m making an exception here. This week CBS aired an episode of The Good Wife, guest starring Miranda Cosgrove. Now that itself isn’t really a major event, people guest star on shows all the time however the nature of the episode to me was just wrong.
The premise of the episode is that the main character has to defend a former Disney Channel star who got into trouble. In this case with DUI’s and attempted murder by ramming someone’s car. That’s right, Disney Channel star, with the emphasis on Disney. As the company is referenced more than once in the episode. Now I’m not someone for conspiracies but isn’t it rather convenient that they have a Nickelodeon star portray a gone of the deep end Disney star? Especially when you consider that CBS is part of Viacom, Nickelodeon is part of MTV Networks which in itself is part of Viacom again. So in all reality, direct competition to Disney.
Couldn’t they have considered to just make the character a teen star instead of making it company specific? Why add Disney into the mix? Yes, there is this history that Disney stars have gone and screwed up. That doesn’t mean that Disney star is a synonym for screw up. That’s just the company aspect though, it actually gets personal. Disney Channel Has a Problem
Tuesday, November 16th, 2010I think Disney Channel has a problem. No, I don’t think it will cease to exist but I do believe that there will be a bit of a low coming along. They might have to get used to lower ratings and less viewers. Everyone knows that Hannah Montana was a big thing for them and that is ending but it’s not the only thing.
Hannah Montana is of course much more than the TV show, you just have to take a look around certain stores and you’ll know why. That won’t die down completely right away after the show of course but it will go down, there is no other way. There will be endless repeats no doubt as well but a network like the Disney Channel also needs new things to air. That’s where the problem is.
Jonas LA has already been canceled (though that show never managed to score big), Wizards of Waverly Place just started its last season and who knows what will happen to Sonny With a Chance. They don’t know how long Demi Lovato will be out of the running and that’s why they are considering to rework it. The idea of turning it more into a real So Random, meaning a sketch show is a bad idea, you just have to look at the Halloween episode to know that it is. The concept of not having the naming character on the show is an odd one anyway. (more…)
