The role model; a person that is admired by young people and how they are trying to emulate. That’s more or less the definition of the term but to be completely honest; it’s all bullshit and the term shouldn’t be allowed to be used in that way, I don’t mean for the sake of the kid’s that admire them but also for the sake of the celebrities themselves. Tuesday, December 28th, 2010The Naughty Media List
Monday, December 6th, 2010People who read this blog probably have noticed before; I have major issues with the way the media behave themselves, especially when it comes to celebrities. Lies are told and facts are hidden. Anything for a story rather than focus on the human aspect of it all. I know I usually don’t like to point out individuals but in some way I had it and especially at the end of the year with people making up crap lists to who was bad this year. Well, two can play at that game (I am also aware that in doing this I’m going them attention). (more…)
Grow Up CBS
Thursday, November 18th, 2010I’m not usually the one to jump in on a single episode of a random show but I’m making an exception here. This week CBS aired an episode of The Good Wife, guest starring Miranda Cosgrove. Now that itself isn’t really a major event, people guest star on shows all the time however the nature of the episode to me was just wrong.
The premise of the episode is that the main character has to defend a former Disney Channel star who got into trouble. In this case with DUI’s and attempted murder by ramming someone’s car. That’s right, Disney Channel star, with the emphasis on Disney. As the company is referenced more than once in the episode. Now I’m not someone for conspiracies but isn’t it rather convenient that they have a Nickelodeon star portray a gone of the deep end Disney star? Especially when you consider that CBS is part of Viacom, Nickelodeon is part of MTV Networks which in itself is part of Viacom again. So in all reality, direct competition to Disney.
Couldn’t they have considered to just make the character a teen star instead of making it company specific? Why add Disney into the mix? Yes, there is this history that Disney stars have gone and screwed up. That doesn’t mean that Disney star is a synonym for screw up. That’s just the company aspect though, it actually gets personal. This whole Disney star thing
Thursday, July 29th, 2010Selena Gomez just finished a big run of promotional activities for her movie Ramona and Beezus and through all of that something very annoying popped up again. While it seemed like the age old “Selena Gomez is replacing Miley Cyrus as a Disney star” was dying down a bit, it started up again. While I’ve said things about that in the past all those new statements about it made me think a bit.
It’s probably not a secret that I prefer Miley Cyrus over Selena Gomez. I won’t say that one is the better actor because I just haven’t seen enough of either of them to make that final judgment. Miley has done The Last Song yes and to me that shows that she has potential but that she also has a lot to learn. What I’ve seen of Selena’s acting is DVD and TV stuff and there she’s only really played the same character over and over again. Will have to see how she does in tougher roles.
Though I would have to add, if we ever get to see her in tougher roles. Right now Selena just seems a bit too safe in her career choices for my liking. That’s always been my main gripe with Selena anyway, it’s all a bit too sweet. Also when I look at her music, it’s all safe standard pop, there is no message behind the music. Can’t say that I take her music career that serious, also when I see her performing live there just seems to be this little bit of stage presence missing. That’s besides using backing tracks which to me is a no no for a singer, especially when you go on a nationwide talent show to perform. Which Selena did while performing on the America’s Got Talent results show, I actually expected the buzzers to go off at one point. (more…)
Edition 53: The Paparazzi Debate
Friday, August 1st, 2008The city council of Los Angeles looking at how they can deal with the paparazzi in Hollywood. Their main concerns being the stars moving out of Hollywood or maybe even injuries due to paparazzi behavior. The LAPD nor the general public really see a point in changing the laws to deal with the paparazzi.
Something should be done about the paparazzi though, don’t get me wrong I think they do serve a purpose and should be able to do their jobs. People want pictures of celebrities and there should be a way to get them. There just should be a limit to what’s acceptable. Right now there are some celebrities that are being chased around town and are even limited in their movements.
